Do Canva QR codes expire? And can you change the link after printing?
Updated 2026-10-17
Short answer: a Canva static QR code can't be changed after you create it. To change the link later, the code has to be a dynamic (editable) QR code.
Canva offers both kinds, according to Canva's Help Center as of September 2026. Which plans get which features can change, so check Canva's help pages for the latest.
Do Canva QR codes expire? How long do they last? According to Canva's Help Center, static and dynamic QR codes have no expiry unless you set one. Details are in “Do Canva QR codes expire?” below.
The two kinds of QR code in Canva
| Static | Dynamic | |
|---|---|---|
| Change the link later | No (the link is fixed) | Yes |
| Scan tracking | No | Yes |
| Expiry | None | None unless you set one (setting one is available on some paid plans) |
Canva's help page says static QR codes "can't be edited after creation as their link is fixed for good". If the URL changes after printing, that code stops being useful.
Do Canva QR codes expire? Are they permanent?
How long do Canva QR codes last? According to Canva's Help Center (checked on 5 October 2026), static QR codes have no expiry, and dynamic QR codes don't expire unless you set an expiry. So in that sense they are permanent. Setting an expiry date and time is available on Canva Business, Canva Enterprise and Canva for Nonprofit. After it passes, scanners go to the URL you chose for that case, or to Canva's generic QR error page.
“No expiry” doesn't mean the page will still exist, though. If the page behind the link is removed, the code stops working even if it never expires.
Can you change a Canva QR code link after printing?
A static code contains the URL itself. If the URL changes or the page is removed, you have to reprint. You also can't turn a static code into a dynamic one later.
How to keep the link editable
You can use Canva's dynamic QR codes, but the features you get depend on your plan. If you'd rather have an editable QR code with a one-time payment and no subscription, make the code in QRMaple and place the image in your Canva design.
- Paste your destination URL into QRMaple and create an editable QR code
- Download it as PNG or SVG
- Open your Canva design, upload the downloaded image, and place it (skip Canva's QR code app)
- Export the design for print
When the link changes, just enter the new URL in the QRMaple dashboard. You don't touch the Canva design and you don't reprint.
What to check after placing it
- Scan it with a phone before printing, ideally both an iPhone and an Android.
- Don't stretch it. Changing the aspect ratio can break scanning.
- Keep a margin around the code. Don't put text or photos right up against it.
- Keep strong contrast: a dark code on a light background.
- Don't make it too small: about 2 cm (0.8 in) square at minimum.
QRMaple pricing
Plain black-and-white static QR codes are free with no sign-up, but they can't be changed later. Editable codes come with a one-time plan (from $39) with unlimited codes and unlimited scans. See also how to change a QR code after printing.
