Lifetime dynamic QR codes: no expiry, no monthly fee, and the fine print
Updated 2026-10-17
Dynamic (editable) QR codes advertised as “lifetime” or “no monthly fee” are usually a one-time purchase. But a dynamic code only works while the service that runs the redirect is running. Here is what “lifetime” should and shouldn’t mean, and how to protect yourself.
What a no-expiry dynamic QR code does and doesn’t promise
- Doesn’t happen: your codes stop because you missed a renewal, or because a trial or plan ended. With no recurring fee there is no plan to lapse.
- Doesn’t happen: codes or scans hit a plan cap (QRMaple has no limit on either).
- Can happen: a code stops because you turned it off, deleted it, or set an expiry date on it.
- Can happen: the service itself shuts down and the redirect stops. That risk is the same for subscription and one-time tools.
So “lifetime” means not tied to a payment you have to keep making. It is not a guarantee that the vendor exists forever. Only a static QR code is truly independent of any service.
What if the vendor shuts down?
QRMaple’s terms say that if the service is ever discontinued, the intent is to keep the redirect running for a reasonable period so printed codes don’t break immediately. That is a statement of intent, not an indefinite guarantee, so read it for what it is.
The practical protection is owning your data. On every paid plan you can export the full list of codes as CSV at any time. With your destination URLs saved, you can rebuild the codes elsewhere. Keep a recent export, and print the destination somewhere findable, just as you would back up any important file.
How subscription tools differ
- Cancel or miss a payment and printed codes can stop. How depends on the vendor; see what happens to QR codes when you cancel.
- When a free trial ends, trial dynamic codes can be deactivated (see do QR codes expire?).
- The longer you use it, the more you pay.

FAQ
- Does a one-time payment mean my dynamic QR codes last forever?
- They won’t stop because a payment lapsed, but nobody can guarantee a service forever. A dynamic code works while the service runs. QRMaple’s terms state an intent to keep redirects running for a reasonable period if it ever shuts down, not an indefinite guarantee.
- Can I export my QR codes?
- Yes. Every paid plan can export the full list of codes as CSV at any time.
- Can I get a refund?
- Yes, a full refund within 60 days of purchase, for any reason.
