How to make a QR code with a logo that still scans
Updated 2026-09-27
A QR code still scans with a logo in the middle and custom colors, because QR codes have built-in error correction that tolerates part of the pattern being covered. Push it too far, though, and it stops scanning.
What you can change in QRMaple
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Colors | Code and background color, or a two-color gradient |
| Dot shape | Square, dots, rounded and more |
| Corner shape | The three large squares in the corners |
| Center image | Your shop or company logo |
| Frame | A band under the code with text like “Scan me” |
Save a design as your default and every new code uses it automatically.
Steps
- Create a QR code in the dashboard (or pick one from your list)
- Under “Design”, choose colors and shapes, then add your logo with “Choose image”
- Download as SVG or a high-resolution PNG for print
Changing the design doesn’t change the link inside. You can still change where the code points later.
Keep it scannable
- Strong contrast: dark code on a light background. Inverted or pale-on-pale codes often fail.
- Keep the logo small: the bigger the logo, the harder the scan. Simple logos work best.
- Leave a margin: print with white space around the code.
- Don’t print too small: about 2 cm (0.8 in) square at minimum; bigger for posters read from a distance.
- Test before printing: scan it with both an iPhone and an Android phone.
Pricing
Plain black-and-white QR codes are free with no sign-up. Colors, shapes, logo and frame come with a paid plan (one-time payment, from $39).
FAQ
- Will a logo stop my QR code from scanning?
- A small logo in the center is fine thanks to error correction. Always test with a phone before printing.
- Can I add a logo for free?
- In QRMaple, design (colors, shapes, logo, frame) is part of the paid plans. Plain QR codes are free.
- What file format is best for print?
- SVG, or the high-resolution 2048px PNG. Both stay sharp when enlarged.
